 Quienes somos?

We are an Elementary Public School with an educational bilingual program from kinder to the 6th grade. We began this bilingual educational program in 2005 with The School of Languages Program promoted by the the Central Level Office of the Deparment of Education of Puerto Rico, impacting only two groups in the school: one 2d grade group and one 6th grade group.  Later in the year 2008 we continued expanding the Bilingual Educational Program through the Program for the Development of the Bilingual Citizen hosted by the Puerto Rico Department of Education in San Juan. Today we are recognized by the Central Level Offices at the Department of Education in San Juan, PR as The Felix Rosario Rios Elementary Bilingual School.

The  Bilingual Educational Program attend children from kindergarten to the 5th grade.  Presently we are impacting an enrollment of approximately 200 students.  The Educational Bilingual Program with a Language Immersion Progression Focus, pretend to facilitate our students the acquisition of the English Language departing from a Natural Approach strategy (enfoque).  It is here where the kid through the role modeling of  the teachers absorb a basic communication vocabulary through the use of games, giving and providing commands and labeling words of daily use like: sit, walk, stand up, wait, come, go, write, read, take a break, close, quit, speak, etc. Through the use of books, workbooks, educational computer programs, videos and the internet, the students in a very slow steady process, little by little, step by step, will be accumulating progressively a more advance vocabulary and  through the regular subject matters discussion and written work, like in Science, Math, Health Education, Music,  Art and the ESL Classes.

In addition the non-speaking English Language students will be acquiring the Target Language (English) through the natural spontaneous interactions with other students who already are bilingual or with  students who come from the states, and whose main language is English.  Also this process will be accomplished with the daily interactions the students will have with our bilingual staff,  whose daily dinamics with our students will be creating a natural an genuine environment where our students will be utilizing everything he/she is already learning in the classroom, and putting it into practice in real and spontaneous scenarios generated in the school and by the school (Talent Show, Plays, The Scientific Fair Competition, Spelling Bee Compentition, and the creation of educational posters and written works (letters, compositions, and basic essays).
